Apply for Finland ID card

There are two ways to apply for a Finnish identity card:

  1. Online: This is the easiest method. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

    • You will need to have a passport photograph taken beforehand. A photography studio can send your electronic passport photograph to the police directly. You’ll receive a retrieval code for attaching the photo to your application.

    • Once your application is processed, you can choose a pick-up location for your new ID card.
  2. In person: You can visit any police station or police service point in Finland to apply for an ID card. The process will involve:

    • Booking an appointment (if necessary).
    • Paying the application fee.
