Licensed Nurse Certificate

USA:

  • NCLEX-RN Exam: You take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
  • State Licensure: After passing the NCLEX-RN, you apply for licensure with the nursing regulatory body in the specific U.S. state where you want to practice. Each state has its own board or commission.
  • License: Upon approval, you’ll receive a license to practice nursing in that state.

Canada:

  • NCLEX-RN Exam: Similar to the USA, you take the NCLEX-RN exam.
  • Provincial/Territorial Licensure: Each province and territory in Canada has its own nursing regulatory body. Contact the regulatory body in your desired province/territory to understand the registration process. They will likely require passing the NCLEX-RN and additional documentation.

UK:

  • NCLEX-RN Not Used: The NCLEX-RN isn’t used in the UK.
  • NMC Registration: You’ll need to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the regulatory body for nurses in the UK. This process involves meeting their requirements, which include completing an approved nursing program, passing the NMC’s Nursing Assessment Test (OSCE), and meeting English language requirements.

Australia:

  • NCLEX-RN Exam: You take the NCLEX-RN exam.
  • Registration with NMBA: After passing the exam, you register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). This involves meeting their requirements such as evidence of good character and health, an accredited nursing program, and English language proficiency.

Commonalities:

  • In all these countries, you’ll need to pass a standardized competency exam (NCLEX-RN or equivalent) and go through a registration process with the relevant governing body.
