Swedish ID card

Apply for a Swedish ID card

In Sweden, the ID card is called a “Nationellt ID-kort” (National ID Card). Here’s how to apply for one:

  • You must be registered as a resident in Sweden over the age of 13 and be able to prove your identity.

Application Process:

  1. Make an Appointment: You cannot apply for an ID card online or by mail. You must visit a Swedish Tax Agency office in person to submit your application. Book an appointment beforehand to avoid long waits. You can make an appointment through the Swedish state service offices online booking system

  2. Gather Required Documents:

    • Valid proof of identity: This could be a passport, driving license, or a residence permit card.
    • Verification of Swedish citizenship (if not a citizen): If you’re not a Swedish citizen but hold a permanent residence permit, you may need a document from the Swedish Migration Agency to verify your right to apply for an ID card. Contact your local Migration Agency office for details on obtaining this document. Buy ID Card
